- Description:
- "A view of the "sky-skraper" of Atlanta. Brick-work just being started on side and 2 ends. We are now on eleventh floor. Those square objects piled on 6th floor is fire-proofing used in floors as arches. Partitions are built-on, something of the same style. The derrick takes up front 1 to 3 tons of steel at a load. I am at work on the other side so am invisible at time this view."

scaffolding, downtown, studio mounted, Bruce and Morgan, Citizens and Southern Bank, North Carolina National Bank, Nationsbank
The Empire Building was constructed in 1901 by architects Bruce and Morgan. The building was the first steel framed structure built in Atlanta. In 1929 the building became the headquarters for the Citizens and Southern National Bank who asked Architect Philip Shutze to redesign the first three floors. In 1991 Citizens and Southern Bank merged with North Carolina National Bank and became NationsBank which still maintains its headquarters in this building. - Local Identifier:
