- Elevated view of the Atlanta Athletic Club building from the intersection of Cone and Williams Streets in downtown Atlanta, Georgia.
In 1924, the Atlanta Athletic Club purchased property on the block bounded by Carnegie Way, Cone Street and James Street (now Williams Street) in downtown Atlanta for the construction of a town club and employed Atlanta architect Philip Shutze to design the new building. The 10-story, Georgian style brick building, which opened in 1926, offered athletic facilities, social spaces, and guest quarters to the members of the club. It also housed the organization's business offices. The building was demolished in 1973. - Local Identifier:
