Joseph Wheeler (1836-1906) was a Democratic politician and military officer. He served as a senior calvary general for the Confederate Army of the Tennessee during much of the Civil War. After the war, he settled in Alabama and was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1880 and again in 1884. He served as a Congressman until 1900. He also served as a general in the United States Army during both the Spanish-American War and Philippine-American War. - Local Identifier:
