View of Union Brevet Major General John Murray Corse's (third from right) visit to Allatoona Pass, the site of a Union victory during the Civil War, near the Western and Atlantic (W & A) Railroad in Bartow County, Georgia, with (left to right) Jim, a porter in the W & A offices; Thomas G. Moore, a farmer; Alton Angier of the W. & A. Railroad; Sam W. Wilkes, the former depot agent and station keeper at Allatoona; Joseph M. Brown, a traffic manager for the W. & A. Railroad; Elijah Brown; Ira McDaniel, Jr., a farmer; General Corse; Hugh Adams, the secretary to Joseph M. Brown; and James Maloy, a passenger agent for the W. & A. Railroad.
John Murray Corse (1835-1893) was a Union officer during the Civil War. In 1861, he joined the 6th Iowa Infantry as it major. He was eventually promoted to a brevet major general after his role in the Union's successful capture of Allatoona Pass in northwest Georgia. - Local Identifier:
