- Description:
- View of the wood shed at the residence of Tullie Smith on North Druid Hills Road, between Buford Highway and Briarcliff Road, in DeKalb County, Georgia.
The Tullie Smith House was built in DeKalb County, east of the city of Atlanta around 1840 by Robert Hiram Smith, who had migrated from North Carolina to Georgia the previous decade. Smith was a yeoman farmer who owned 11 slaves and approximately 800 acres of land. A typical plantation plain type house, it was surrounded by metropolitan Atlanta's highways and suburban office parks by the 1960s. Heirs of the Smith family decided to donate the house to the Atlanta Historical Society and the house was moved to the institution's Buckhead campus in 1969. The house was subsequently restored and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. - Local Identifier:
