- Description:
- View of the exterior of Piedmont Hospital on Capitol Avenue (now Hank Aaron Drive) on the block between Richardson Street and Crumley Street south of downtown Atlanta, Georgia.
In 1905, Dr. Ludwig Amster and Dr. Floyd W. McRae were granted a charter for the establishment of the Piedmont Sanatorium, which was originally located in a two-story brick residence on Capitol Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1925, the Board of Trustees changed the name of the ever-expanding private infirmary to Piedmont Hospital. In 1940, the hospital was granted a new charter authorizing it to operate as a non-profit organization. In 1954, construction began on a new hospital facility on the former property of the Spalding family on Peachtree Road at Collier Road. This site's original building was completed in 1957; however, the facility has undergone numerous expansions since that time. - Local Identifier:
