- View of the exterior of the Southern Medical College located on Butler Street (now Jesse Hill Jr. Drive) at its intersection with College Street (Coca Cola Place), in Atlanta, Georgia.
In 1879, Dr. Thomas S. Powell founded the Southern Medical College. Its building, located on Porter's Alley (now Equitable Place), was completed the same year. In 1898, the Southern Medical College and the Atlanta Medical College merged to form the Atlanta College of Physicians and Surgeons, which has since been incorporated into the Emory University School of Medicine.
