- Coast Guard's New Speed Craft Launched; Long Beach, Calif: -- Pride of the local Coast Guard unit is the new sixty-five foot patrol boat No. 442, swiftest thing in the harbor, was launched yesterday from the yards of William Whiting at Long Beach, Calif., and to be commissioned within two weeks. Propelled by four 400 hp Liberty motors, she is guaranteed to make a speed of thirty-two knots and is believed capable of doing much more. Following her from the same yards within a month will be a sistership. Photo shows: The C. G. 442, new speedboat for the Coast Guard which was launched with proper ceremony yesterday at Long Beach, Calif. Shows the speakers stand where Dorothy Haagsma baptized the 32 knot patrol boat.
