Benjamin Harvey Hill (1823-1882) was an attorney and politician. In 1851, Hill was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives as a member of the Whig Party. In 1859, he was elected to the Georgia Senate as a Unionist. When the Confederate government was formed, he became a member of the Confederate Provisional Congress and was subsequently elected to the Confederate States Senate. After the end of the Civil War, Hill became a Democratic and spoke out against Reconstruction.
