The historic DeSoto Hotel was constructed in 1890 on the original site of the Oglethorpe Barracks in Savannah, Georgia. Designed by William Gibbons Preston, the hotel served as a site to draw tourists in, before the entered into Florida. The Sergeant William Jasper Monument is located in Savannah, Georgia's Madison Square. Designed by Alexander Doyle, it memorializes Jasper, who was killed during the siege of Savannah in 1779. - Local Identifier:
