The Battle of Chickamauga was fought September 18, 1863, near Catoosa and Walker County, Georgia, during the American Civil War. As part of the Atlanta Campaign, it was the most significant Union defeat in the Western Theater of the American Civil War and the first major battle fought in Georgia. The battle was fought between the Army of the Cumberland under Major General William Rosecrans and the Confederate Army of Tennessee under General Braxton Bragg. - Local Identifier:
