Oglethorpe University was chartered in 1835 in Midway, Georgia. The school was closed during the Civil war and its charter lost. After the war it was reopened at a temporary location in Atlanta, Georgia. Oglethorpe University was re-chartered in 1913 and moved to its current campus on Peachtree Road after 1915. Oglethorpe University is home to the Crypt of Civilization, a modern era time capsule which was sealed in 1940 and will be opened in 8113. - Local Identifier:
