Clark Howell (1863-1936) was a journalist, newspaper editor, Democratic politician and federal administrator from Atlanta. The younger Howell became the managing editor of the newspaper in 1889 and editor-in-chief in 1897. In 1901, he became the principal owner of the paper. In 1885, Howell was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives where he served three terms. In 1900, he was elected to the first of two consecutive terms in the Georgia State Senate. He later served on the Federal Transportation Commission under the Coolidge Administration and chaired the Federal Aviation Commission under the Roosevelt Administration. - Local Identifier:
