Evan P. Howell (1839-1905) was a soldier, attorney and Democratic politician. He fought in the Civil War and organized Howells Battery of Artillery, of which he was captain. After the war, he served on the Atlanta City Council and later as the solicitor general of the Atlanta circuit. In 1873, he was elected to the Georgia Senate and served two terms. In 1876, Howell became editor-in-chief of The Atlanta Constitution and served in that capacity until 1897. In 1903 and 1904, he served as mayor of Atlanta. - Local Identifier:
