ECHOES IN THE MAKING

ORIENTATION/REGISTRATION

x_

Registration and freshmen
orientation were performed
quite differently this year.
The students at Piedmont
College participated in
many of the activities during
the first week of school. A
number of Student Govern-
ment Association members,
class officers, and resident
advisors volunteered their
services to assist in orienta-
tion as well as registration.
These students held various
orientation classes for the
freshmen and enlightened
them of everything they
should need to know for en-
tering Piedmont College.

ECHOES START HERE

FRIENDS

When we lived near each other, we
participated in the same activities. Our
friendships were strong because we
shared so many things together. Now
that we are living apart, we rarely see
each other and have begun to make
new friends. These people share the
same activities and our friendships
have become strong also. But then
again, we only leave to go and create
new friends somewhere else. Our
friendships remain because we share
the same feelings. The closeness of our
hearts is what makes a friendship last.

Memoirs of a School Year

You've lived a lot. laughed a lot. and have
grown up. Made new friends, and many pre-
cious memories The years will Prmg new
friendships, and new times to rememPer The
vivid recollections of today will fade in the
Pright suns of your tomorrows But its all cap-
tured here in a yearpook Turn the page, and
turn on the memories

Going to college means taking a Pig step in one's life Leaving
home is not easy especially when you're entering a whole new
world. A world that is full of knowledge, excitement, discipline,
intelligence, anxiety, studying, socializing, and many more charac-
teristics This world is college Continuing your education on to
college can Pe an experience worthwhile in your desired career
and future ampitions It is at college where students learn to bal-
ance out their extracurricular activities and the time needed for
studying in order to excel within their classes The memories creat-
ed at Piedmont College linger on in the minds of students and these
memories will always hold a special place within those students'
hearts

PIEDMONT'S ECHOEING

As the years pass by while attenting Piedmont College, what you once
considered acquaintances are now close friends. Leaving Piedmont to go
home for a vacation is an appreciated vacation away from classes. The
coming back to school to reunite with friends brings back many memories
of the crazy things you did in the past such as locking your roomate in
the bathroom, playing hall ball, sliding down the railing in GB Hall, eating in
the cafeteria, intramurals, playing pool, and going to O'Malleys. Yes, of
course, you are faced with the agony of going back to classes, but you
know you will always have more good times with your great friends.

^^

OF OLD COLLEGE FRIENDS!

WELCOME TO THE FUNNY
FARM

Moving away from home is a difficult
thing for anybody to do. Going away
to college causes you to begin a new
life with new surroundings and a new
place to call home. Getting to know
people really isn't as hard as some
people may think when you live with so
many. Actually, it is quite amusing as to
what people do when they are bored.
Though it is tough at first to adjust to
your new friends in the dorm, you can
always count on them to be your fam-
ily away from home.

1989 YONAHIAN DEDICATION

DR. JOHN WESTER

This year the 1989 Yonahian yearbook is dedicated
to Dr. John Wester, the Dean ot Students. He has
been chosen because of his unlimited care and
willingness to help the students of Piedmont Col-
lege. There have been many changes at Piedmont
College since Dr. Wester's arrival such as new cur-
few hours in the dorms, the rewriting of the student
handbook, as well as the SGA constitution. This
yearbook is being dedicated to Dr. Wester for his
dedication to the students at Piedmont College.
THANKS!!!

FADS WILL COME AND GO

When we open up this 1989 Yonahian annu-
al it won't be the pictures or sayings on the
pages that warm our hearts. It will be the
memories created of all the wonderful times
we have spent together this year.

MEMORIES WILL ALWAYS
REMAIN!

The Commerce Division Club was created a
few years ago and Dr. Mark Gardner is cur-
rently the advisor of this business oriented

are also able to meet the affiliates of some
of these major corporations by having
guest speakers come and inform the stu-
dents about their company in a CDC meet-

COMPASS

Club

Piedmont has welcomed a new club to
its campus. During the 1988-89 academic
year, the Compass Club received it's cer-
tificate of organization. Throughout the
year, they had several projects. Each
one was very successful. This was only the
first year for the Compass Club and with
such a great start they can only get bet-
ter. The officers that served during the
year were: Secretary Kim Smith, Vice
President Julie Tucker, and President Rich-
ard Parry.

The Pilot Club of Toccoa and the Pilot Club of Habersham County recently organized a Compass Club on the
campus of Piedmont College. The extension areas of the clubs are responsible for setting up this new organization.
A charter service was held in the Piedmont Chapel on Sunday, Jan. 8. Participating were Carol Parker, faculty,
advisor and member of Habersham Pilot Club; Mary Vaughn, President of Pilot Club of Toccoa; Ann Adams, i
immediate past President of Pilot International who presented the certificate of organization; Richard Parry. I
Compass Club president; Sara Hayes, extension area leader; and Debbie Cain, President of Habersham Pilot Club.

LION'S
PAUSE

The Lion's Pause Newspaper Staff has
done a remarkable job in printing the PC
campus newspaper. This newspaper in-
forms the student body and staff of cur-
rent issues that are occuring at Piedmont
or nation wide. Skip Wilhite is the advisor
of the Lion's Pause and Matt Benson is the
editor. Matt has received much of his as-
sistance from the following students: Rick
Parry, Donna Gentry, Amber Ray, and
Bonita Bagley. For the first time, there will
be a summer edition of the Lion's Pause
Newspaper. This edition will be available
to all new, incoming and returning stu-
dents. A number of advertisements and
articles will inform the Piedmont student
body of the activities open to everyone
on and off PC campus. Keep up the
great work, Matt.

CROSS-

FRIENDS

In an effort to provide better services for
international students. Piedmont College
is in the process of forming a new campus
organization. The purpose of the Cross-
Cultural Friends is not to isolate the inter-
national students, rather, it is to incorpo-
rate them into the main framework of the
school. Hence, the name Cross-Cultur-
al Friends. Any student, faculty or staff
member interested in reaching across
cultural barriers to encourage those who
have come to Demorest. GA., to study
are welcome to participate in the orga-
nization of this timely group.

RESIDENT
ADVISORS

Being a Resident Advisor requires a strong
commitment and desire to help other stu-
dents. An RA is someone who is available
to others for emotional support, counsel-
ing, discipline, and academic guidance.
The hours are often long and tideous, but
the rewards are many. These rewards are
often in the form of long lasting friend-
ships created through bonds of trust with
other students. A Resident Advisor's posi-
tion gives one the opportunity to devel-
op strong leadership skills to be applied in
their future. It is a great honor to be given
the title of RA, but it is even greater to
earn the respect of other students
through this title.

1988-89 RA's: Shelene Smith, Janet
Rooks, Jewell Gordon, Kim Smith, Jodi
Tate, Chris Kennedy, Harold Moore, Mike
Edwards, Jeff Casper, and Raymond

STUDENT

WORKERS

There are many students at Piedmont Colege who
help pay their tuition through working on campus
These students are employed by the offices and
different departments to help keep expenses and
tuition down as much as possible It can be very
strenuous going to school full time and also workng
17-20 hours a week, but for some students there is
no other answer Piedmont Coege's work study
program is able to cooperate with the students n
their working hours and this makes the student's
college years less hectic

CLASS

OFFICERS

Each year a group of students are selected to
represent the student body at Piedmont Col-
lege. These students voice their opinions on
the decisions and actions carried out by the
administration. They also voice the opinions of
the students within their class who elected
these class officers. It is a great accomplish-
ment and honor to be elected as an officer.
The officers spend many hours working with
advisers in trying to benefit the needs and
wants of these students. All in all, our class
officers have been very successful in the activ-
ities and events they have planned for the
school year. We are looking forward to the
new and exciting 1989-90 school year and the

the girls never gave up and were always eager
to create ways of improving. We're looking for-

VALENTINES DAY DA/VCE

This year SGA tried something different with the student
activities. On Valentine's Day, SGA sponsored a dance that
was held at the Cornelia Community Center. The communi-

a wintery ball with its hard wood floors and high ceilings with
hanging chandeliers. The dance was hosted by Power 99.7
and the students rocked the night away with the variety of
music that was provided by the DG. This first time dance
proved to be a great success and we look forward to
having more dances like this one.

girls are back and there's

There are some of the best years of our lives. The girls
at G.B. are like a family as well as the guys at Purcell.
'Never a dull moment on campus,' says "Mom." The
memories and friends made here will always be a
special part of our college years. Thanks Laura Adams
and Louis Lindsey for making our home away from
home. It's fun, fun, fun til Mom makes the guys go
away.

Seniors!

From,

THE

YONAHIAN

STAFF

Walking down the hall with a smile
on his face, always a warm hello for
those he meets. The future seems so
bright for this young freshmen. John
Ginn had his whole life to give and
share with others. Then his course of
life was changed suddenly by a
tragic accident. Not only was John's
destiny changed, but the lives of
those who knew him would be af-
fected also. We don't know the
reason why hurt must come to those
who seem so noble, but God has a
reason for everything in our life
There is a strength within John's soul
that can be felt by his friends when
they come to visit even though he
lies so helplessly in bed John, you're
in our prayers We've learned so
much from you in the short course of
time we had with you at Piedmont
God be with you and your family

Love.
