Dedication
In Dedication to Senora Car-
idad Lopez. Mrs. Lopez is one of the
building blocks upon which Pied-
mont College was established. She
has been at Piedmont for 17 years
and in that time she has created
one of the best Spanish Depart-
ments in the state. Mrs. Lopez has
also given many students an op-
portunity to express themselves
and their talents in her very
exciting and entertaining pro-
grams she produces every year. On
behalf of all past, present, and
future students, Gracias mi Amiga
In appreciation to Mrs. Ellen
O'Neal for her help and guidance to
all of the students at Piedmont
College. She has been available to all
of us, whenever we needed her. Mrs.
O'Neal has also built the Special
Services Program to be an in-
strumental part of the students
learning process. With our love and
hearty appreciation. We thank you.
Appreciation
The President's Letter
by James E. Walter
Hark! the herald angels sing, "Glory to the newborn King; Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and
sinners reconciled!" Joyful all ye nations rise, Join the triumph of the skies; With angelic hosts proclaim,
"Christ is born in Bethlehem!" With angelic hosts proclaim, "Christ is born in Bethlehem!" Hark, the
herald angels sing, "Glory to the newborn King."
The Christmas spirit of joy in giving to others is a living reality on our campus throughout the year.
Our mission of faith in the potential for good in the lives of eager and industrious young men and women
is reflected in the confidential jobs we entrust to them. Our confidence and strength come from the prayers
and gift support of friends who are in tune with the Christmas carols.
There could be no gift supported college in our "land of the free and the home of the brave" without
the fundamental convictions of faith in our heavenly Father. The freedom that stems from teachings of
Jesus like, "Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free" enables independent and church
related colleges to maintain the traditional teachings of integrity, individual initiative, social justice, free
enterprise, and religious freedom.
Even as the Babe in Bethlehem received gifts from the three wise men who followed the Star, learners
of today depend on wise men and women who dedicate their dollars for scholarship and work-aid grants,
contribute stocks and bonds for Annuity gifts, and remember our work of Christian education in their
wills. The coming of Christ ushered in a new spirit of giving in overflowing measures of ones self and
treasures to the building of a better world, the kingdom of God here on earth. Training college youth
in the disciplines of knowledge and strengthening their moral character in the atmosphere of separate
dormitories for unmarried men and women, continue to be satisfying and gratifying experiences on our
campus at Piedmont College.
The Christmas spirit of giving is absolutely essential for our witnessing in practical educational
programs to our faith in the Christ-child and the Man of Galilee. We depend on our friends in business,
the Churches, and alumni to contribute about one fourth of the annual budget. Another fourth is provided
by the income from endowment gifts. The remaining two fourths are paid by students for tuition, room,
and board.
I rejoice in the fellowship of believers who remember our students and teachers at Piedmont College
regularly in their prayers. We depend on the spiritual nurture and strength that you provide by your
prayer partnership.
Your financial expressions of partnership are inspiring and encouraging also. The families who list
our needs in their hearts and in their gifts, and the churches that have adopted the college and our
students who are working their way through school, are all vital to our health and welfare.
I feel very certain that the graduating seniors of 1981 will all want to have a share in helping their
alma mater to grow stronger, year by year. Thus I invited every Senior to pledge a monthly gift of $15
to the College, beginning with his/her first paycheck after next June.
I invited each one to join the distinguished company of all believers in Christian Education with
monthly expressions of faith and financial support. I said, "Think what this will do for your personal
pride and joy as you bring your own daughters and sons to Piedmont College in due time. Every graduate
is free to celebrate his or her own share of the Christmas Spirit within our Halls of Ivy."
God bless you all, everyone.

Teachers are loyal, trustworthy, brave, and true
but there are times that they have a right to be blue.
They have jobs that are one big pain with unending
questions that some times are hard to explain. They get
little recognition for a job well done but a lot of
complaints on grades to well summed. So from now on
when you see teachers blue tell them they have done
their best to see you thru.

Flash says
One's nice, two's better, but, three's a hand-full.
Getman-Babcock Hall was completed in 1966 as an
enlargement of Babcock Hall, originally constructed in 1940.
The Hall provides dormitory living for 135 women, 3 faculty
apartments, and 2 guest rooms.
There is always much excitement when it comes to dorm
life. The girls share in each others life and make new friendships
that they will cherish forever. It is a time of growing up and
learning without parents and a time to make decisions. With the
love the girls have for one another they will have many fond
memories to take with them as the year ends.

SGAE
SGAE (Student Georgia Association of Educators) is an association of students for a teaching degree.
It helps the students that are not sure of their profession, to give them information of what they need
to complete to become a teacher. The student going out into the public school, doing observations and student
teaching, it provides an insurance policy for protection of any law suit that may be served.
Every year we attend the workshop in Covington, Ga. We also attend the state convention. We sponsor
several activities throughout the year.

The First Annual Women's Basketball Tastee-
Freez Classic was held January 16 & 17, 1981 and
hosted by Piedmont College Lady Lions. The Lady
Lions won the tourney and placed two players on the
all tournament team. With the tremendous help of the
Tastee-Freez of Baldwin, (Mr. & Mrs. Wayne Davis,
owners) and the Tastee-Freez of Clarkesville, (Mr.
Ottis Stonecypher, owner). These gracious people
sponsored and advertised the tournament. Our list of
friends also helping were Habersham Bank, First
Bank of Habersham, and The Cornelia Bank. Thanks
sponsors, and especially the Piedmont Lady Lions!

Helping Young People To Help Themselves,
So That They May In Turn Help Others
Gail O'Kelley
My personal confidence in the character,
ability, and teachableness of our Piedmont
College students is embodied in my policy of
employing our own students for secretarial
services in the President's Office. Moreover this
policy of entrusting our own students with the
college's most confidential work is also
reflected in all administrative and academic
offices of the entire college. We believe
enthusiastically in young people. We practice
that faith daily in all the operations of
Piedmont College.
As a result of our mutual faith and
successful experiences of working together, the
employment record of Piedmont College graduates far exceeds the average.
One industrialist told me that it was profitable for him to fly from New York to spend a day
on our campus to interview three or five young people. "Why?" I asked him. His reply was crisp
and precise. He said, "Piedmont College teaches young people by word and deed to think clearly
and to acknowledge work as honorable and worthy of one's best efforts. With these attitudes we
can teach reliable young people of good character to be valuable and productive employees in
our corporation."
Likewise the young people who go into teaching are most welcome because they too have gained
valuable experience through tutoring and office work with professors, coaches, librarians, or the
business manager.
The two junior girls on this page, Tina Cantrell and Gail O'Kelley, are personal friends as
well as industrious and very satisfactory student secretaries. I am proud of them as I am of all
the young women and men who have helped me carry forward the vital services of the President's
Office.
Piedmont College will continue to be outstanding in this pattern of Helping Young People
to Help Themselves. We know that these days of practical service together will also bear rich
fruit for our working young people in the years ahead. Soon their shoulders will carry the full
responsibilities of an important job in industry, education or in one of the professions.
