FOREWORD

With a longing eye into the past, and an eager look toward the
future, we come to the end of another year. For some, it is their
last and their long awaited graduation. For others, it is just the
end of another year. Both have one thing in common, memories of
their days in college.

The staff of the Yonahian has tried to include many of the events
of the past year in the pages to come. We hope that as you look
through this book, now and in the years to come, that it will hold
fond thoughts of your time in college.

The 1964 Yonahian is the start of something we hope will be
:ontinued by future staffs. The staff has attempted to also record
:he progress of the school, so that when one looks back, he may see
;vhat has been done to improve the school. We at Piedmont are
n the middle of a change "a dream come true." First, the new
rlassroom administration building, then promised plans that would
nake anyone excited.

There are many things a yearbook should record the activities,
;ports, functions, but most of all, the memories. Those things which,
ong after we have left school, can be looked back upon with fond-
less and appreciation.

The 1964 Yonahian staff hopes they have accomplished this goal.

DEAN RONALD E. WEITMAN

DEDICATION

Because your gaiety, warmth,
and friendliness, like a
tree in colorful autumn
array, make our hearts glad;

Because your gentleness,
like the lacy quality of
snow-covered branches in winter,
is a consolation to us;

Because your spirit, like

the fresh-budding leaves and

blossoms of spring, gives

hope to all who know you; and,

Because your character, respected
and admired as a gigantic
moss-draped oak in summer,
makes us want to be like you

To you. Dean Weitman, we proudly
dedicate this, our 1964 YONAHIAN

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

A dream, long held and deeply cherished, is coming true here at Piedmont College the
dream of a more vital, a more effective, a more fruitful program of Christian higher education.

Farther over, in this Yonahian, you will see pictures of an unfinished classroom administra-
tion building, being erected at a cost of $500,000.00 Before another Yearbook is in your
hands, devoted teachers and eager students will have discovered the greater joys of this build-
ing completed, furnished, invested of a never-ceasing delight, an imposing diadem on our
campus' crest.

That part of the Piedmont College dream will have come true!

Also, in this Yonahian, you will see pictures of our present women's dormitory, Babcock
Hall. By this time next year, Deo Volente, an addition to Babcock Hall, more than doubling
its present facilities, will be receiving the finishing touches, making it ready for our young
women, who will be arriving for the 1964-65 academic year.

That part of the Piedmont College dream will have come true!

Then, a little farther off, but bright and beckoning, like lovely Ariadne, will be other parts
of the Piedmont College dream coming true: an addition to our present E. Louise Patten Me-
morial Library; another new men's dormitory; a chapel; a fine arts music, art, drama build-
ing; a student union; a new field house and gymnasium; increased faculty salaries; larger en-
dowment; swimming pools and tennis courts in short, a dream coming true of Piedmont
College, virile, puissant, matching its strength in Christian experience and academic excellence
with the strength of the youth, whose eyes have caught the morning light that streams from the
brows of these immemorial mountains.

On November 22, 1963, a tragic end came to our then President, who, himself, was a dream-
er of dreams for his nation and for the world. In the sorrow of that epochal event, we feel
doubly obligated to do our best to achieve.

"Beauty and friendship and the dream fulfilled.
"The golden answer to the deeply willed."

Yes, unashamedly, we, too, are dreamers of dreams dreams for Piedmont College that are
slowly, but surely, coming true; and, we encourage our youth to dream fine dreams," vast
dreams for themselves, for their College, and for their world.

We invite you to share our dream the dream that is coming true, by the grace of God and
the prayers and generous help of friends, at Piedmont College.
