^Dedication
Where the Georgian Hills grow purple
In the sunset glow,
Proudly stands our Alma Mater
In a vale below.
This year as we observe the fiftieth anniversary of the founding
of PIEDMONT COLLEGE we occupy a vantage point. With pride we
look back on a large group of our graduates who have attained
success in many fields. They have made and are making the world
a better place in which to live. With full confidence we look forward
to a Greater Piedmont in the Hills of Habersham.
Among the Hills of Habersham
Where skies are ever blue
Old Piedmont takes its stand
The pride of Dixie Land
And while the waters of Lake Demorest
Make ripples in the breeze
And rainbows glow with green and gold
The words we'll sing are these
It's Piedmont for mine
It's Piedmont for mine
That's the school I love the best
Down in Georgia Demorest
The sun always shines
On that place so fine
And I'll always say as I say today
It's Piedmont for mine
"There shall be light"
And it came to pass that there was light. In the language of an earlier Col-
lege bulletin. (Fifty) years ago among the red hills of Georgia a beacon was
lighted at Piedmont College. Prayers, self sacrifice, devoted service, and kindly
temembrances from distant friends have susta'ned it always. Far up the gorges
of the Great Smokies its beams have penetrated; and out across the lowlands
where share-croppers toil, guiding an ever growing army of young men and
women to wider opportunities and richer lives."
This was the light of Truth made warm and inspiring by the alchemy of
great teachers. Piedmont men and women have gone out bearing this light so
that it has been kindled and rekindled in human hearts as waves spread from
the dropping of a stone.
It has been a great half century indeed. The good the College has done is
immeasurable. Its graduates have gone out to die in both world wars. Wher-
ever they have gone they have carried the warmth of the Piedmont spirit, the
strength of the Piedmont light.
You who are here today are privileged to share in the celebration of this the
fiftieth commencement, to rejoice with us in these fifty great years of service: to
plan with us for the new half-century at Piedmont. This light once kindled
here must not go out!

"Music is a moral Law. It gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the
imagination, a charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything. It is the essence of order, and
leads to all that is good, lust and beautiful, of which it is the invisible, but nevertheless dazzling,
passionate, and eternal form." PLATO.

Sara Cisson, Nancy Martin.
Second row: Mildred Akin, Dot Holcombe, Lora Lancaster, Olivia McHan. Margaret Bailey,
Betty Morgan.
Five of the above girls were on the squad of the previous year: Sara Cisson, Stella Wilson,
Ellen Wiley, Sue Smoot, Betty Morgan.
Transfer Student: Kathryn Jordan.
Freshmen: Nancy Martin, Margaret Bailey, Olivia McHan, Dot Holcombe, Lora Lancaster,
Mildred Akin.
Return student: Edna Jordan (not shown). Her return to the campus after three years added
