This sermon was composed at the Cabin Home of Robert Zenas Johnston, November 1, 1862, and was originally delivered at Sharon Presbyterian Church (Charlotte, N.C.), November 2, 1862. It was subsequently delivered at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church (Charlotte, N.C.), December 14, 1862; Providence Presbyterian Church (Charlotte, N.C.), January 11, 1863; Bethlehem Presbyterian Church (Monroe, N.C.) [?], August 1863; and Bethesda Presbyterian Church (York, S.C.), September 1863. Includes a two-page outline of the sermon, delivered before the 25th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry, November 4, 1863. Sermon on 1 John 3:4.
