Boggs to James Woodrow: recounting his voyage to Bremen on the New York Steamer, and sightseeing in Bremen, Leipzig and Dresden, where he now resides; he also shares what he has heard of German unification, Herzogin Garten, Dresden (Germany), July 9, 1859; discussing his study of chemistry at the University of Heidelberg and his travels through several cities in Europe with Thornwell and company, mentions Thornwell informed him of Woodrow’s appointment at Columbia Theological Seminary, and looks forward to visiting, Heidelberg (Germany), September 18, 1860; commending Woodrow on his new position at Columbia Theological Seminary and wishes to visit but fears impending war, discusses his work in the chemistry laboratory and seeks Woodrow’s advice about studies while offering to purchase books, Heidelberg (Germany), January 24, 1861.
