- Description:
- Two publications on the evolution controversy. 'A Defense of True Presbyterianism against Two Deliverances of the Augusta Assembly,' written pseudonymously under "Gillespie" published in May 1886, argues that resolutions within the [26th, 1886] General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S. in Augusta (Ga.) made additions to 'God's word' in its argument against evolution. It also seeks to clarify Dr. Woodrow's ideas on evolution with respect to the scripture's account of creation, and argues that he has not exhibited heresy. 'A Complaint of James Woodrow Versus the Synod of Georgia in the Case of the Presbyterian Church of the United States Versus James Woodrow,' printed in 1888 at the Presbyterian Publishing House in Columbia, S.C., documents the proceedings of the heresy trial of James Woodrow, and his response to the accusations.
