- Manuscript sermon by Robert Zenas Johnston concerning the means, influence, and obligation of parents in the education, especially religious education, of their children. Johnston also comments on the relationship between religious education and social order, the lack of instruction provided to children and enslaved persons, and the attitude of (Union) military. This sermon was composed at the Cabin Home of Robert Zenas Johnston, August 22, 1862, and was delivered at Sharon Presbyterian Church (Charlotte, N.C.) and Providence Presbyterian Church (Charlotte, N.C.), September 1862, shortly after the Second Battle of Bull Run.
