- Manuscript sermon by Robert Zenas Johnston concerning the nature and intention of the incarnation. Johnston implores his listeners to rejoice and live with joy in the midst of trials, comparing the time to come in America in the midst of the Civil War as potentially worse than the Scottish Covenanters and English Nonconformists. This sermon was composed “near Mrs. Walker’s near Charlotte, N.C.,” December 25, 1861, and delivered at Sharon Presbyterian Church (Charlotte, N.C.), December 29, 1861, and again at Providence Presbyterian Church (Charlotte, N.C.) among a “small Saturday congregation,” January 11, 1862.
