Handwritten notes appear in the margins of the typewritten declaration. Also includes a handwritten letter titled "An UnPresbyterian Baby," author unknown, which mocks the "Grounds of Complaint or Appeal" put forth by Reverend William Adams D. D. of Augusta against the Augusta Presbytery and Rev. James Woodrow. A Southern Presbyterian article titled "Subduing the Agitation"; by J. William Flinn discusses the degrees of tolerance taken by Presbyterian assemblies around the South towards discussing the evolution controversy.
