- Sermon notes by John Newton from August 14, 1790 through March 5, 1797, preached at Beth-Salem church near Lexington, Georgia. Some notes bear notations that they were preached at New Hope. Sermon notes from December 9, 1795 are titled 'Fast of Humiliation Sermon,' and others are titled 'Action.' John Newton, a native of Pennsylvania, came to Georgia as a missionary in the 1780s and was ordained by the Presbytery of South Carolina in 1788. He led the organization of Beth-Salem Presbyterian Church near Lexington, Georgia in 1785 and served the congregation after his ordination until his death in 1797.
