- Sermon notes by John Newton from February 12, 1786 through August 24, 1788. Most were preached at Beth-Salem church near Lexington, Georgia. Some notes bear notations that they were preached at Providence. John Newton, a native of Pennsylvania, came to Georgia as a missionary in the 1780s and was ordained by the Presbytery of South Carolina in 1788. He led the organization of Beth-Salem Presbyterian Church near Lexington, Georgia in 1785 and served the congregation after his ordination until his death in 1797.
