PUBLISHED QUARTERLY AT DECATUR, GEORGIA
PLANS FOR GRADUATE COURSES
SUMMER SESSION IN PROSPECT
Columbia Theological Seminary has been experimenting with the idea
of offering certain graduate courses on Monday afternoons and nights for
the benefit of ministers who live near enough to drive in and take ad-
vantage of them. The response has been very good during the fall quarter,
so two more courses will be offered during the winter quarter, beginning
December 1. The afternoon course will be the Gospel of Luke, taught by
Dr. Frank Brown, who has just recently joined the faculty. The evening
course will be on Biblical archaeology, taught by Dr. Paul Garber. a
visiting professor from Agnes Scott College. Each course will carry a
credit of two quarter hours. Ministers who are interested in taking one
or both of these courses should get in touch with S. A. Cartledge, Dean
of the Graduate Department.
The Seminary has decided to have a summer session for graduate stu-
dents during four weeks of August 1953. Detailed plans will be announced
later. Preliminary announcement of the summer program is made at this
time so that those who wish to take advantage of the opportunity may
begin to shape their summer schedules with that purpose in view. Dr.
Cartledge will be glad to correspond with any who desire information in
advance of the prospectus for the summer session which will be issued
in the early spring.
GIFT BY CLASS OF 1952
LEADS TO NEW SERVICE BY LIBRARY
At Commencement in May, 1952, the Senior Class presented to the
Seminary a check for $500.00 to be used to encourage the beginning of
a book-loan system. As a result of this contribution and of the improved
facilities in the new John Bulow Campbell Library building, the Seminary
now extends to its alumni and to other Presbyterian ministers an invitation
to borrow books through the extension department of the library. Any
book in the circulating collection generally, all except reference books,
rare books, and periodicals will be mailed at no cost except the return
postage. . , .
In accordance with the wishes of the Class of 1952, it is planned to use
the money from this fund to purchase books which will be of particular
interest to ministers serving in the pastorate and to make these books
available for loan.
The list below is a representative group of books recently added to tne
library. Books purchased from the Class of 1952 fund are marked with
an asterisk. These, and other circulating books, can now be borrowed on
request to the librarian. ,,.,,, j
Books will be loaned for a period of one month and will be renewed
automatically for one additional month, provided no one has requested
the book in the meantime. In order to encourage the continued use of the
library it is planned to issue two lists of new books each year; one in the
fall and one in the spring. Not all books purchased will be listed; inquiries
about other books will be welcomed.
It is suggested that when possible the borrower request several titles and
specify thTnumber from the list which should be sent.
