Peg a SUS A winged horse, who is
the son of the Greek god Poseiden of the oceans and
the Gorgon, Medusa. He is known as a wise horse
who is an inspiration to all the great poets. The
Pegasus always strives to be the best.
Just as Pegasus reached for excellence, so do the
students and faculty of Central High School. We are
continually rising above the obstacles and situations
that we face in our day to day lives. Our school
motto is, We lead. And we always have; in aca-
demics, military training, sports, and the arts. Cen-
tral has a long tradition of excellence, and we the
students uphold that tradition.
On the wings of success, Central High School at
tains supremacy and soars above the rest.
A SPECIAL SOAR T OF PEOPLE
Through the halls of Central High School roam a great variety of people.
Regardless of how different we are, all of us share a common factor. The building
we attend is like any other school, but it is the students who make it so special.
Students here agree upon the uniqueness of the school. One junior, Tosh Ander-
son, thinks Central is special because, There is a lot of diversity here. It is a
smaller version of the world outside of school.
Central's students outdo the other schools when it comes to expressing
individuality. Whether it is through the styles of clothing we wear or the
hairstyles we flaunt, it is obvious that Central has an abundance of special
people!

Bad grades; who needs them? We don't always intend to i
make bad grades, but we all seem to get our share of them. \
Just think; if we never failed at something, our lives would no
longer be a challenge (thats a good line to hand your
parents!)
How did you feel when you found out that you had failed a f Warning:
class? Many of you were, disappointed because | knew |
could have passed, but | didn't use my time wisely. Some
adopted the old sour-grapes attitude; Man, that course was
useless anyway. Then theres the ever-popular, Oh, | can
take it next year.
A bad grade once in a while is inevitable, right? But you
can only have so many sunrises, as they say, and if you keep
putting off what you can do today until tomorrow, you will
find that you have run out of tomorrows. What's most impor-
tant is that you try your hardest, learn from your mistakes,
and go on. If you achieve today, you will be able to achieve in
the future. Low

Being a student at Central High
school is complicated enough without
having the burden of a part-time job,
but (fortunately or unfortunately),
some of us at Central do hold down
various jobs. A junior here expressed
her feelings about having a part-time
job; It gets monotonous, and inter-
feres with study time and social
time, too! A majority of the working
seniors said, Its a fact of life, I've got
to work to have spending-money, or,
It's a great way to learn what your
abilities and goals are. You learn how
to be responsible.
The jobs that Central's students
hold are extremely varied. On a Friday
or Saturday night, you can see practi-
cally every employed Central student
at his or her workplace. These places
range anywhere from movie-rentals to
theaters to clothing and grocery
stores.
Students often apply for jobs be-
cause of pressures from parents or
friends to,""Be responsible, or, Start
making some money of your own! But
the main reason they apply is for extra
money. This money is usually put to
good use; for class rings, car pay-
ments, or Christmas presents!
Normally, its a big hassle to have a
job because of grades and school ac-
tivities, but in the end , the experience
is constantly rewarding. As you gradu-
ate and go out on your own, you have
some practical experience and know-
how with which to tackle life.

After sitting quietly in class for an hour, the long-
awaited bell rings and we all jump to take advantage
of our precious seven-minute break. During this
time, we find some self-appointed entertainers of
the student body. Everyone secretly desires to be a
comedian and it is apparent that there are quite a
few here at Central High School. Oh, what is it about
the presence of a camera that brings out the wacky :
sides of our personalities?! i +m ign oy

Molly Ringwald is always Pretty in Pink.

INXS is having bad dreams.
Music and movies play an
important role in the social
lives of Central students.
Think of the time you spend in
front of a movie screen, or lis-
tening to music. There is a
wide range of preferences in
our choices. Some popular
movies of the year were: Bev-
erly Hills Cop Il, Dirty Dane-
ing, The Lost Boys, and Pla-
toon. Central girls were
attracted to hilarious Eddie
Murphy, Tom Cruise, the
adorable Michael J. Fox, and
Emilio Estevez. Kim Basinger,
Whoopi Goldberg, Demi
Moore and Molly Ringwald
captured the hearts of many
male students.
We have strong and differ-
ent tastes in music also (to say
the least). Popular groups
were U2, Whitsnake, The Fat
Boys, R.E.M., and LL Cool J.
Special songs hold memories
for many of us, and others are
just easy to relate to. Some of
these include Gonna Have a
Good Time Tonight by INXS,
With or Without You by U2,
I Need Love by LL Cool J.,
Wipeout by the Fat Boys
and the Beach Boys, and Whi-
tesnakes Here | Go Again.
WHIT MEY

This year, the news
has been full of triumphs
and tragedies, scandals
and schemes. Events
such as the Iran-Contra
affair,the U.S.S. Stark di-
saster, numerous plane
crashes, and Americas
involvement in the Per-
sian Gulf are among the
happenings that grabbed
Americas attention. De-
spite these occurences,
Americas spirit has
been uplifted. Scientists
are coming closer to
finding a cure for rapid-
ly-spreading and deadly
Aids, and we all celebrat-
ed the 200th anniversary
of our own constitution
in grand American style.
America is a few steps
closer to peace with
Russia, and great efforts
on Americas part have
been made to help oth-
ers in times of need.
1987-88 has definitely
been an eventful year for
the United States; one
which we will certainly
remember.

The time has come to pay tribute to
our faculty and staff at Central High
School. Think about it where would
all of us be without the help and guid-
ance of our teachers? These people
have helped to make Central what it is
today, a school of excellence. That was
no easy task. The overcrowded class-
rooms, griping students, disagree-
ments (need I go on?) have all contrib-
uted to the daily ritual at Central. You,
the faculty and staff , have pulled us
through the thick and thin, and we just
want to say, THANKS!

4. You're no bunny till some bunny loves you!
5. Hanging around after lunch is always enjoy-

The freshman class this year had to
face being the new guys on the
block. They had to face the embar-
rassment of bounding into the wrong
classrooms, the confusion of dealing
with floating teachers, or mistakes in
their schedules. It was also hectic, go-
ing to classes in two different build-
ings; complains one freshman, From A
to B in seven minutes? No way!
Also endured by the freshmen was
the harrassment of the upperclassmen,
and as another put it, Being made to
feel like the scum of the earth. How-
ever, the 9th graders did enjoy being
in the senior high and meeting new
friends. By the end of the year, they
were looking forward to being sopho-
mores and_ breaking in the next fresh-
man class!

Well, its your second year of high
school, you're bout goofy, and
some aspects of school may be looking
rather bad. All of you have probably
realized by now, from your marvellous
experience in the 9th grade, that car-
rying all those loaded down book bags
between the buildings is a pain in the
neck! So what did you do this
year but get a locker? Of course, you
must share it with one or two people
over at Lanier A, where all of the lock-
ers are stuck in classrooms. That
makes it loads of fun for everyone,
especially the teachers who are
breathing down your neck!
As said by one sophomore,Get
real! All those books, all that mess .
it seems hopeless! Chaos will rule Cen-
tral until the end. There is some hope,
though. Hope such as," HOPE | pass
this year, or | HOPE I'll have lunch at
Lanier B. Maybe this is you,"| HOPE |
have a top locker at Lanier B of my
very own next year.
You may be disheartened by all this,
but Im here to tell you that it does get
better; you just have to stay alive and
keep on soaring above the rest.
{. Robert Green surveys the Lanier B campus.
2. Brandi Boyd and Kim Fordham have dreams of
better food.
3. Now, the bell has not rung yet don't pack

4. Stacy Clayton is caught almost unawares dur-
ing the pep rally.
5. Luana Young and Julie Simmons decide to
pass on lunch.

Being a junior is one of the joys of
high school. As a junior, you're in the
middle. You could just sit back , relax
and enjoy life, but being a Central Jam-
ming Junior takes a bit more. Central
juniors are well-known for their school
spirit and for the enthusiasm that they
have. They are also one step closer to
senioritis!
We interviewed several juniors and
asked them what it meant to them to
be juniors at Central High School. The
first response that we got was, We
are the future and we are what will
make the world of tomorrow Other
responses were that being a junior is
GREAT; and not only is it great, but its
rewarding.
The junior class here is well-respect-
ed and very chic; we're at the head of
the class. We're soaring above the
rest.
1. Ron Woodford, Shannon Webb, and Jennifer
Keith; We're just here for the pose!
2. Another amazing balancing feat from David
Lystlund.
3. A big thumbs up from Elaine Neal.
4. Are we paying attention in class? No, | don't
think so
5. Hello-o-0-o-0 down there, Linton!

My last year! How many times dur-
ing the year do you hear a senior say
these words? True, it is our last year of
high school, but its also the very be-
ginning of a totally new life. When we
leave the school we have become so
fond of, we will also be leaving behind
the friends and teachers who made
our high school lives memorable. But
we'll always have the memories. Even
though we won't be attending Central,
we'll keep these memories of the fun
we had with our friends close to our
hearts forever.
Many of us are uncertain as to what
the future holds, but we do know that
the things we have been taught at this
school of excellence will help us to en-
dure the tough times. Here, we've
been through good times and bad; we
know we can be ready for anything,
and can make the most of our lives.
We the seniors have only climbed a
small part of the ladder of life. Remem-
ber where we came from, and that now
is the time to climb to the top .
/. Mumkin gives a whole meaning to looking
over your shoulder, says Kendra Ferraro.
2. Allan Bass raises the roof.
3. Senior Elizabeth Stafford shows everyone
what Charger spirit means.
4. Being a senior is a good reason to smile, at
least Susan Wilder and Jenny Clark think it is.
5.Dont try that line on me, Harry!

The 1988 Senior Superlatives are surely soaring above the rest.
The Superlatives this year are definitely deserving of the name.
Each person was required to have a 2.75 G.P.A. and participate
in numerous activities during his high school career. Not only
should a Central Superlative be well-rounded and have respect for
the school but must be a leader and magnify his schools name; as
the motto expresses, WE LEAD.

Senior
Selections
Senior Selections have become an important tradition for the grad-
uating class of Central High School. The selection process began with
the nomination of students in eight categories. Senior students nomi-
nated their fellow classmates in the areas of best dressed, most
athletic, friendliest, best all-around, most spirited, most popular, and
most likely to succeed. A boy and girl were nominated in each
category.
Following the nominations, the actual voting took place. The top
nominees in each category were presented on a final ballot. The
students seen on the following pages were chosen Central's 1988
Senior Selections.

When America entered the war in
1917, her utter unpreparedness at once
made itself apparent. It also showed
that in an emergency, the man with
some military training went forward
rapidly, while the untrained man had
to be content in the ranks.
Major J.D. Blair was the first com-
mander to be procured by the Board of
Education. He, with untiring effort,
started Lanier on her course as a Re-
serve Officers Training Corps.
Through the years since the adop-
tion of JROTC at Central, it has been
the backbone of this school and its
participants leadership and responsi-
bility have given Central an excellent
reputation.

The 1987-88 military year will go down in the annals of Cen-

Over the years, JROTC has had success in all of its endeav-

performance experienced in past years. The morale and disci-

because there was togetherness among the Battalion. | would
like to commend the cadets for a very special year. That, | will

All of us have struck out at least
once in our lives. We've fumbled the
ball a couple of times also, but despite
the bad plays, we have scored the win-
ning run and with our variety of sport
programs here at Central, we managed
to soar above the rest. The coaches
inspire this idea in all the players. And
so far, they have been successful. Just
look at our present and past records.
Central always comes out on top in the
end, whether it be concerning sport-
manship or just good athletics.

The Central High School
boys tennis team finished the
1987 season with two wins and
eight losses. Although the
teams final record was not
outstanding, Central still had a
strong team with many excel-
lent players. Most of the
matches were extremely
close, and often the other
team won by only a point.
According to Coach Ed-
wards, the I988 boys tennis
team is expected to be a good
one. Many of last years play-
ers such as Hollis Pugh, Geoff
Armstrong, Kevin Fussels, Ja-
son Shields, Todd Cramer, and
Scott Turner are returning.
This years team will definite-
ly be more experienced in
competing in matches and will
be familiar with the other
schools tennis teams, giving
them a competitive edge.

The girls tennis team at
Central High School has al-
ways been considered one of
the top teams at Central. The
past season proved to be out-
standing as Central was
named City Champion. They
proceeded to go to the Region
AAAA tournament in Augusta
and finished second. One
team member, Becky Burnsed,
competed in the South Geor-
gia tournament.
In addition to the scheduled
practices, Coach Tom Simon-
ton encouraged members to
play tennis as often as possible
to prepare for the meets. The
hard work and dedication of
the team certainly paid off as
Central finished with a 6-3
record.
The past history of Cen-
trals girls tennis team is rath-
er impressive. Since 1980, they
have a record of 47 wins and
I5 losses. Central has won two
state doubles championships,
one region championship, and
four sub-region champion-
ships.
Central's girls tennis team
definitely soars above the
rest!

Wrestling is a sport which requires a great deal of
dedication. These wrestlers dont get much recognition
except for the satisfaction of defeating the opponent.
Wrestling matches consist of three two-minute periods.
Both wrestlers usually start in an up position. In the
second and third periods both wrestlers usually start
down on the mat.
There are 22 to 23 wrestlers on the team this year and
thirteen different weight classes. Coach Smith expects 7-
8 wrestlers to go on to the State Tournament which is the
ultimate goal. Central competes against five other teams
in this region, and the top four wrestlers in each weight
class move on the the State Tournament.
We're proud of Central's Wrestling Team!
Central varsity boys baseball team was
ranked seventh in its sub-region tourna-
ments last year. They averaged about ten
wins and six losses. Centrals pitcher Kevin
Powers received the Best Player award. The
school board has enforced the no pass, no
play rule in the past few years. This means
that any athlete failing to pass more than
two subjects can not play in any sport in the
next quarter. Coach Jones said that in spite
of several poor grades having been made,
hes looking forward to this year.

SOAR ING THROUGH THE GOAL
At the end of our varsity football season, Harry
Thompson interviewed Coach Simonton. As the coach
quickly looked back on the year, he told Harry that the
biggest highlight of the year was certainly when the
team defeated Northside of Warner Robins with the
close-call score of 19-I8. The coach credited the win
to the enthusiasm and the sense of unity among the
players. However, he did say that there were some key
players who did especially well and deserved a little
extra recognition. These players were:
Rodney Jones MVP of the year
Carlos Dorn Most valuable defensive back
William Finney, Eric Glover, Michael Hartman, and
Victor Griffin.
Harry asked Coach Simonton what makes a success-
ful team By far, the most important element of
winning is the mental outlook and attitude of the
players.

As we reflect upon our past football season, we quick-
ly begin to wonder what type of team we will have in
our future. We get our best clues by taking a look at our
uprising varsity players, the B-team. The yearbook
staff's curiosity prompted us to interview the man in
charge of the B-team, Coach Holleman. He told us that
the B-team teaches the players the pros and cons of
the system. He also told us that he tries to teach the
players the importance of working as a unit instead of
as individuals. We asked him if there were any key
players we should keep our eyes on. He suggested:
Rico Fuller Ernie Parks
Eric Calehone Reginald Cunningham
Mark Dent Rudy Thomas
He also told us that when Leonard Evans, Tarvis New-
some, and Calvin Jackson moved to varsity they made
major contributions to the team.
We asked Coach Holleman if he had any words of
advice he would like to express. He said, Always try to
stay in a good frame of mind and never forget to play
with hustle and desire. We hope our B-team players
will heed the advice and help the Chargers make our
1988-1989 season the best ever.
CHARGING WITH THE BALL ...
The 1987-1988 season was espe-
cially fruitful for our 9th-grade
football team. With a record of 5
wins and only one loss, the team
won the city championship
against the much-rivaled South-
west team. This really didnt
come as too much of a surprise,
however, considering that the
same team won the 8th grade
city championship last year. We
asked Coach Jones and Coach
Brown to tell us who some of the
key players of this excellent
team are. They told us the follow-
ing .

SNOWFLAKE 88
_
On Thursday, January 7, Central stu-
dents and teachers were surprised by
a heavy mixture of sleet and snow. The
students, of course, were overjoyed
with the sudden change of weather.
The teachers just wanted to go home
to the fireplace. The schools were fi-
nally dismissed at about II:40 p.m. May-
hem surrounded the school in the last
few minutes before the students were
released. The snow and ice brought an
extra holiday and a chance for stu-
dents to try out their driving skills on
the slick roads.

the time. Moweuer, be assured we will always be there when you need 4.
Congratulations! Way God keep and bless you. We love you, honey.
