As the 77 football season started, Central came out raring to show
their colors only to be let down by a 4-5 record. But, the Big Orange
Chargers arent about to let this stop them. Central is no quitter. We'll
be great in 78.

The crowd of 7,000 was alive at Porter Stadium. Central, the under-
dog, had the No. 1 ranked Griffin on the ropes. Roosevelt Wilder led
Central with 91-yards on 15 carries. Central scored on its last posses-
sion of the half.

Central gave away its second
game as Laney managed a 21-7
victory. They put together three
scoring drives for their second
straight win. Central scored its
only touchdown in the second
quarter. Quarterback Chuck Gib-
son flipped a four-yard scoring
pass to halfback R. Wilder. John
Zimmer converted the PAT.

Butlers wishbone attacked
Centrals defense for 326 yards
rushing. Central could manage
only two first downs, one in the
second quarter on a 12-yard pass
from Gibson to end, David Cher-
ry, and the other on a Butler pass
interference. Butler won con-
vincingly 19-0.

Central football was alive and well in
Warner Robins. The Chargers upset
the Eagles 7-0 before 7000 fans at In-
ternational Stadium. Scott Currie
caught a nine-yard pass from Gibson
for the only score of the game. Cen-
tral was happy their winless burden
was over.

Neither team got exactly what it
wanted. Central wanted to upset the
Demons because they were No. 1.
Warner Robins wanted to stomp Cen-
tral to strengthen their grip on the top
spot in the Class AAA polls. Parker
commented, We were on their goal
line twice. We gave it our best shot.
We just came up a little bit short.

In the 1st intra-city clash of this football season,
Wilder rushed for 196 yards and two touchdowns to
lead the Chargers to a 28-0 scalping of rival North-

R. Wilder rushed for 154 yards and 2 touchdowns
to pace Central to a 34-0 Region 4-AAA West victory
over Baldwin County. Scott Currie caught a 5-yard
pass from Randy Griffin for the final score. Ricky
Kurtz converted four of the five Central touch-
downs. The Chargers were proud of their second
string defense.

Central was carried past Washing-
ton County 31-0 by Wilder, rushing
for 337 yards on 26 carries.

After 11 consecutive losses at the
hands of Central, Southwest perse-
vered to win with a 14-7 score in the
last game of the season. With 9,000
fans crowding Porter Stadium, Coach

Hammond and his Patriots were finally
rewarded.

This victory gave to Southwest the
4-AAA West Region title.
