- The last wooden (covered bridge) across the Chattahoochee River at Fort Gaines, Georgia. A new steel bridge was built across the river and opened December 18 1925. A week after the new steel bridge was opened, the old wooden bridge fell into the river--and the day before, it was full of people walking across.
