- Towers of Atlanta's oldest church building frame the dome of the Georgia capitol which is covered with native gold from the mountains near Dahlonega, Ga. Immaculate Conception Church, built on this site before the Civil War, survived the Battle of Atlanta but was razed in 1869 when the present structure was erected.
