- The Colonial Dames of Georgia have erected in old St. Paul's churchyard, a memorial cross to mark the site of Fort Augusta, which was built in 1736 and afterwards, in 1780, named Fort Cornwallis. At the foot of the monument lies an ancient cannon, - a most interesting relic, which was in the fort originally.
