- Description:
- The Confederate Monument, on Broad Street, was erected by the Ladies Memorial Association in the memory of the soldiers from Richmond County who died in the Civil War. It cost $17,331, and was unveiled October 31st, 1878. It is 72 feet high, surmounted by the statue of a Confederate private, while 22 feet above the base stand life-size figures of Generals Robt. E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, Thomas R. R. Cobb and Wm. Henry Walker.
