- Description:
- Largest exposed granite dome in North America, it lies in DeKalb County, 16 miles east of Atlanta, and is now a Georgia State Park. The mighty monolith rises 850 feet above the plain on which it stands, is two miles long and has a circumference of seven miles. It is estimated to weigh 1 1/2 billion tons. A heroic memorial to the Southern Confederacy, envisioned a generation ago, will be completed at the mountain by the Stone Mountain Memorial Assn.
