- Shortly after the Revolutionary War, Thomas Redman Thornton migrated from Virginia to Georgia settling on land formerly owned by the Creek Nation. Thornton House was ceded by them to the State of Georgia in 1783. In 1967 the house was moved adjacent to the plantation at Historic Stone Mountain, Georgia.
