- Description:
- Secretary of State's Final Ruling in County Line Disputes.
In 1899, state law was changed to give the Secretary of State the authority to make a final ruling in county boundary line disputes. This book was begun by the Surveyor General's office to record the resolution of those disputes. The Georgia Archives as the successor to the Surveyor General's office now updates the volume. Not all boundary disputes require the intervention of the Secretary of State. They may be resolved independently by the county governments or are settled when both counties accept a boundary survey conducted by an independent surveyor. The Surveyor General's office attempted to retroactively record all county boundary line disputes which occurred after the law changed, although staff frequently lacked basic information beyond the counties and the year of the dispute and had no supporting documentation. - Metadata URL:
