- Description:
- Transactions of the Trustees of the Colony of Georgia, also known as the Earl of Egmont's Journals.
The Trustees elected fifteen members to serve as an executive committee, called the Common Council, with a quorum of eight to conduct business. The corporation of Trustees and the Common Council governed the Colony from London. Sir John Perceval, Earl of Egmont, served as President of the Board of Trustees and kept a journal of its proceedings from 1732 until May 1744. The first volume of his journal, covering 1732 until 9 June 1738, has been lost. This volume, the third of the series and second extant volume, is organized into separate journals for each year from June 1741 through May 1744, with separate indices following 1741-1742 and 1742-1743. The journal for 1742-1743 is divided into two parallel portions, with the index for the second portion. There is no index for the 1743-1744 journal. Irregular pagination. Volumes two and three of the journal are transcribed and published in Volume 5 of "Colonial Records of Georgia," compiled by Allan D. Candler. - Metadata URL:
