The Georgia State Capitol was dedicated and opened to the public on July 4th, 1889. On July 8th, 2009, a birthday party celebrating the Capitol's 120th anniversary was celebrated in the Capitol Rotunda, hosted by Secretary of State Karen Handel and Archives Director David Carmichael, with Implementation Director Lonice Barrett representing Governor Sonny Perdue to present the proclamation. The party included an army band, cake, and a birthday card to Miss Freedom, the statue atop the capitol dome. - Metadata URL:
