- Convention between the States of South Carolina and Georgia, concluded at Beaufort, in the State of South Carolina,
Commissioners from Georgia and South Carolina, appointed by their legislatures, met at Beaufort, South Carolina, in 1787 to settle the Georgia-South Carolina border where the Tugaloo and Keowee Rivers join to form the Savannah River. The commissioners agreed that the Tugaloo River, the southern of the two rivers, should form the boundary. They also agreed that the islands in the Savannah and Tugaloo Rivers should belong to Georgia. In return, South Carolina relinquished all other claims to land east, south, and west of the boundary. - Local Identifier:
