In 1948, the citizens of France organized a "Merci" train to take gifts to the people of the United States in response to the "Friendship" trains of foodstuffs and clothing sent from the U.S. to the people of Western Europe following World War II. Gov. Herman Talmadge organized a "Thank-You Train" committee to organize a reception when the "Merci" train delivered a boxcar of gifts to the people of Georgia. - Metadata URL:
