- Volume of full-length silhouette profiles of members of the legislature and executive department of Georgia in 1855. Each member signed his name and the county he was from below his profile. The volume is organized into three sections, for Executive, Senators and Representatives. Each section includes a table of contents listing each member and the page on which his profile appears.
William Henry Brown (1808-1883), a native of Charleston, South Carolina, lived in Philadelphia from 1824 until at least 1841, where he worked as an engineer. He began to work as a silhouettist in the 1830s first in New England and later travelled throughout the South. Brown is noted for a series entitled "Portrait Gallery of Distinguished Americans," published in 1846 as a book of lithographs from his full-length silhouettes. In "Profile Likenesses," Brown included the porter in charge of the executive rooms, which is the earliest known silhouette of an African-American in Georgia. - Metadata URL:
