- Juliette (Gordon) Low founded the Girl Scouts of the United States of America in 1912.
Correspondents include Juliette Gordon Low, Elizabeth Van Dusen, Robert Baden-Powell, Edith D. Johnston, Mrs. Charlotte Vetter Gulick. Most of the letters in this folder are from Robert Baden-Powell. These letters are from Canada, Buffalo, aboard the S.S. Minnesota, Adelaide, Australia, and England. These letters talk about Baden-Powell's Boy Scout work, and the Girl Guide movement, and several of the letters contain references to books, including Wau-Bun. In a letter of February 22nd, Baden-Powell talks about the interest in starting a Gild Guide movement in the United States, and in a letter of March 15th, he compares the Girl Guide system favorably with that of the Campfire Girls. In a letter of March 18th, Baden-Powell congratulates Juliette Gordon low for getting the Girl Guides started so quickly in Savannah. In other letters Baden-Powell gives news of Boy Scouts and Girl Guides in other countries. A letter of December 8, 1912, in addition to giving news of Boy Scouts and mutual friends, thanks Juliette Gordon Low for the wedding present. In a letter of March 192 to Mrs. Charlotte Vetter Gulick, co-founder of the Camp Fire Girls, Juliette Gordon Low gives a brief account of the group she has formed in Savannah and suggests possibly there can be a merger between the Camp Fire Girls and her group.
