- 268 pages of compiled city council minutes, hand-written letters; newspaper clippings; etc. which detail Peachtree City, Georgia's historical relationship with golf carts. A note on golf carts from Peachtree City Library volunteer Robin Strickland: "Peachtree City residents have enjoyed legally driving their golf carts on city streets since 1974. Prior to that time, some citizens drove their golf carts unsanctioned for short trips about the city. Their actions prompted the Peachtree City police to cite the drivers. The mayor and city council intervened only to learn from Governor Jimmy Carter that the city had to follow state law which meant those carts had to be inspected and registered. The mayor and city council approached the Georgia General Assembly which eventually enacted legislation to exempt golf carts from such inspection and registration. The law was signed by Governor Carter in 1974. In this way, Peachtree City blazed the trail for other Georgia communities to establish similar cart networks."
