Reverend Martin Bacon could be described many ways as he worked
tirelessly and touched the lives of many people.
Martin Bacon was born in Evans County, March 27, 1923 to the
late Jim and Nannie Bacon and departed this life August 31, 2019. He
was joined in holy matrimony to Martha Bacon and to this union, six
children were born.
He attended Mt. Pleasant and Daisy Elementary School and received
his high school diploma from Dickerson Training School in Vidalia, GA.
He served 2 years in the U.S. Navy and was a Veteran of World War II.
After receiving his bachelors degree from Paine College in Augusta,
GA, he was certified for Principalship at the Teachers College in New
York City, New York. He also obtained a Masters degree of Education
from Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee AL.
After teaching 4 years at Evans County Training School in Claxton,
GA, he was called to be Vice-Principal at Screven County High School
in Sylvania, GA serving 2 years. He then served as principal of Southside
Elementary School in Newington, GA for 21 years. He retired after 37
years of dedicated educational service.
He was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church
in Claxton, GA. He served as Youth Pastor and Assistant to the then
Pastor Rev. E.M. Solomon for 10 years. He also served as Pastor of the
Ogeechee Branch Baptist Church and Freewill Baptist Church both in
Screven County.
Reverend Martin Bacon was called to Pastor First African Missionary
Baptist Church in Glennville, GA in September of 1977 where he served
diligently for Christ and members until he retired in 2007.
Reverend Martin Bacon remained (and remains) Gods servant,
leading, advising and mentoring many.
He is dearly missed but raised up as we celebrate his life and his
Homegoing to meet with God.
Survived by: His wife Martha Bacon, Daughters & Son Sherryl
Bacon, Terry (Mae) Bacon, Taneeta Bacon, Marqueita (Vernon) Jones,
Angelia Bacon &C Christy (Jerone) Cooper. Grandchildren Martin
Bacon, Makayla Bacon, Brook (Shalagh) Bacon, Joseph (Monique) Jones,
Sarah (Kwayne) Gossett, Rachel Jones, Benjamin Jones, Terri (Benjamin)
Alford, Brandon Cain, Angelia (Alan) Bishop, Monica Cooper, 8 great
grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
