Robert Earl Tompkins, 90, slipped away peacefully on
April 29, 2018 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro,
GA. Robert Tompkins was born October 22, 1927 to
Nathan & Estella Tompkins in Manassas, Georgia. He
grew up in Manassas & Bellville Georgia. He attended
school in Tattnall County. His nickname was Steve
Wilson. He was a faithful member of the United House of
Prayer. Where he served as a Deacon and Grace Soldier .
He sang 5th tenor in a Quartet called the Holy Aires. Rob-
ert Tompkins began working for Daniel Lumber Company
when he was 14 years old. Where he was formerly em-
ployed was a truck driver for over 60 years. He married the
love of his life Mae Retha (Johnson) Tompkins and to this
union eight children were bom.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Retha
Tompkins of 69 years. Mother, Estella Tompkins, father
Nathan Tompkins, Mother-in-law Henrietta Mills, Father-
in-law, Joe Walker, brother-in laws, Riley Johnson, Perlie
Brown, Riley Mills, Randall Mills, Harry Mills, Olan
Mills, Herman Mills; Sister-in-laws Annie Mae Mills,
Cora Mikel, Vera Brown, Veretha Mincey, Lessie Gross,
Willie Lee Mills his a daughter Genevieve Cobbs, son-in
-law, William Melvin, grandson, and Bobby Lewis Tomp-
kins.
He leaves to cherish his moments of love seven children,
Bobby (Thelma Lavem) Tompkins, Emma Melvin, Larry
(Velma Raye) Tompkins, Ronnie (Gwendolyn) Tompkins,
Emory Tompkins, Ricky (Lynette) Tompkins, Stanley
(Rose) Tompkins, 27 grandchildren, 54 great-
grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; One brother
Otis (Deloris aka Pat) Tompkins, one sister Mae Retha
Brown, special caretaker Roxanne McKever; One brother-
in law Fletcher (Wilma) Mills; sister-in-laws Helen John-
son and Williease Mills and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends.
