Biographical Sketch
Mrs. Dorothy Carr Jennings
Mrs. Jennings was born in Claxton, GA on November 24,
1944, to the late Mr. &\Mrs. Leroy & Mildred Carr. She
was married to the late Mr. Raymond Louis Jennings on July
29, 1972, almost 30 yeary until his earthly demise on Feb-
ruary p, 2001. She was preceded in death her loving uncle
and aunt, Mr. Wallace Nate (Carnation) Baker, and best
friend^rs. Mattie Jenkins. As an educator, Mrs. Jennings
lived by the Golden Rule, Do unto others as you would
have them do unto you. That is how she lived her life until
the morning of Wednesday, March 26, 2018, when she died
suddenly at her home.
She accepted Christ at an early age, and attended schools
in f^kes County, Washington, GA. She graduatedfrom Fort
Val^k State College with a BS Degree, Fort Valley, GA.
She taught for three years in Ludowici, GA and moved to
Tampa, FL after marrying her husband Mr. Raymond Jen-
nings. She joined Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church
under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. CP. Epps. Mrs. Jennings was
employed by Flillsborough County Public Schools and taught
at Hillsborough Senior High School for over 34 years and re-
tired in 2003. During her long-term tenure, she was awarded
The Teacher of the Year in 1997, and a catalyst impacting
the lives of hundreds of students of which many kept in con-
tact with her. After retirement, she enjoyed her membership
andfellowship with former retirees of the Red Hats.
Mrs. Jennings leaves to cherish her memories: One loving
son, Mr. Elrayo Xavier (Lakiesha) Jennings, Sr. and one
grandson, Elrayo Xavier Jennings, Jr. Like a daughter Mrs.
Tenesha Caldwell (Demand) (niece). Upon marrying her
husband Raymond, she was joined with a blended family of
children, Mr. LaVanda Williams (Wife), Mrs. Cordelia Bry-
ant, Mr. Daryl Jennings, Mrs. Sheryl (Allen) Jordan, Miami,
FL and Rev. Clarence (Linda) Hammonds, Lakeland, FL;
three brothers, Mr. Leon (Emma Jean) Carr of Claxton, GA,
Mr. Johnny (Patricia) Carr of Tampa, FL, and Mr. Jimmy
(Jessie Mae) Carr of Claxton, GA; One brother-n-law, Mr.
Edward Lee (Bettye) Jennings, Sr, Gainesville, FL; four
sister-in-laws, Mrs. Edna Jennings, Mrs. Sarah Jennings,
Mrs. Thelma Jennings all of Tampa, FL, Mrs. Barbara Jean
Murphy, and Mrs. Gloria (Robert) Blount) of Atlanta, GA;
Three aunts, Mrs. Olivia Porter, Mrs. Esteen Swanson and
Ms. Ollie Mae Baker, all of Claxton, GA. Devoted nieces,
Ms. JaQuana Carr, Mrs. Sherryl Jennings Cusseaux and
Mrs. Saundra Jennings Cusseaux, dear friends, Mrs. Brenda
Blake of GA, Bernice Finlason, Ginnie Diaz, Sandra Gaugi-
lardo, and Mrs. Ginnie Freeland, NY, neighbor, Mrs. Betty
Fountain, god-daughter, Mrs. Ruby Powell, and a host of
other loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
