Ollie Lee Mikell, Jr.
March 21, 1938 - November 30, 2017
Deacon Ollie Lee Mikell, Jr. passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday,
November 30, 2017. Ollie was seventy-nine years old.
Ollie was born in Claxton, GA on March 21, 1938 to the union of the late Ollie
L. Mikell, Sr. and Cora (Mills) Mikell. At the age of 16, he relocated to Boston,
Massachusetts and stayed with the late Sherman Brown. He married at an early age.
Five children were born during the marriage (Willie L. Scott-Mikell); two of the
children preceded him in death.
His parents were very involved in the United House of Prayer For All People.
They ensured Ollies name was listed on the roll at an early age. He served under
all four Bishops. Ollie was very faithful about helping with painting and other work
in the United House of Prayer in Boston, MA. He continued this work when he
relocated to the United House of Prayer in Claxton, GA. He was made a Deacon
under Elder J. Thomas and remained a Deacon until his demise.
Ollie worked various jobs including a supervisory position at A&P Super Markets
Distribution Center. He was a quick learner. He could discuss any subject on various
levels. Ollie took Chemistry classes at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
In later years, he attended New England Institute of Technology (NEIT) where he
learned the auto body trade. Ollie ran his own auto body shop until he retired.
He enjoyed cooking, fishing, gardening, listening to various genres of music,
reading, and working on cars. In addition, Ollie enjoyed discussing biblical stories,
which related to historical events, or just talking to people in general.
Deacon Mikell was preceded in death by his sons Gerald Mikell and Stanley
Mikell, as well as his brother Paul Mikei, and his sisters Ida B. Brown and Eula F.
Mikel. He leaves to his children to cherish his memory Gregory C. Mikell (Atlanta,
GA), Belinda G. Mikell and Pamela Mikell-Bias (David) (Norwood, MA), Kimberly
Green-Martinez (Milton, MA), Mechelle Smith and Tristan Sealy (Boston, MA),
Michael Sealy (Islip, NY). He enjoyed a loving relationship with David Sealy, Jackie
Smith, and Robin Smith (Boston, MA). In addition, he leaves to cherish his memory
nine granddaughters: Sajata Mikell (Lynn, MA), Mercedes Bias (Jacksonville, FL),
Chiara Martinez (Milton, MA), Lauren Mikell and Alecia Mikell (Atlanta, GA),
Micheray Smith, Chanel Smith, Ashley Smith, and Adaija Smith (Boston, MA); seven
grandsons: Fabian A. Mikell (Atlanta, GA), Devon Martinez (Milton, MA), Tristan
Sealy (Islip, NY), Michael Smith, Darius Smith, Dante Smith, and Daejon Smith
(Boston, MA); two sisters: Janice Hatcher and Brenda Mikell (Boston, MA); five
brothers: Henry Mikell and Lanice Mikell (Boston, MA), Charles Mikell and Willie
Mack Mikell (Lena) (Claxton, GA), and Dennis Mikell (Beverly) (Killeen, TX); along
with a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends whom
already miss him dearly.
