Deacon Edgar Freeman, Jr. was born on October 17, 1929 in
Gasden, Alabama to the late Mrs. Willie Sue Short Freeman and Mr.
Edgar Freeman, Sr.
Dea. Freeman grew up in Gasden, Alabama. At a young age, he
moved to Buffalo, New York where he received his education. He
joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean war. Upon being
stationed in Fr. Stewart, Georgia, he met and married Mrs. Elease
Stafford. They were married for 50 years. To this union, six children
were born. Two of which preceded him in death: Mrs. Elease (Sally)
Burney and Mr. Donaldson (Duck) Stafford.
Dea. Freeman also had one sister, Mrs. Francis Harris and one
niece, Mrs. Cynthia Smith who both preceded him in death. Three
brothers-in-law: Mr. Frederick Stafford, Mr. Benjamen Stafford, and
Rev. William C. Hayes; and one sister-in-law: Mrs. Essie Mae Allen.
Dea. Freeman has had several jobs throughout his life. He
worked for C&C Farms a number of years as truck driver and later
worked as a fireman over 18 years at Georgia-Pacific where he re-
tired.
Dea. Freeman never met a stranger. He was willing to help any-
one that he could throughout his life. He was the oldest Deacon at
St. John Missionary Baptist Church.
Dea. Freeman leaves to cherish fond memories: two loving
daughters: Mrs. Marion (EC) Wilcox, Jr. and Mrs. Rozella (Michael)
Bellamy. Two loving sons: Mr. Edgar T. (Cynthia) Freeman, and Mr.
Dennis B. Freeman, all of Claxton, Georgia.
Eighteen grandchildren: Dwight, Eugene, Jennifer, Tracy, Don,
Jason, Michael, Sherie, Terrell, Shawn, Sabrina, Tia, Tiffany, Myah,
Malik, Myles, Denise and Stephan. Twenty-six great-grandchildren
and three great-great-grandchildren.
Three great-nieces: Mrs. Sheila (Kiko) Swain, Mrs. Lisa (James)
Baines, and Mrs. Sonya (Otto) Hines. Two great-nephews: Mr. Lloyd
Smith and Mr. Ronnie (Taji) Daniels, all of Buffalo, New York. A
great-niece, Ms. Lillian Janelle Daniels, who preceded him in death.
Six sisters-in-law: Mrs. Lou A. Hayes and Mrs. Catherine Lucas
of Atlanta, Georgia; Ms. Dorthey Stafford, Ms. Juanita Mobley,
and Ms. Margaret Stafford, all of Claxton, Georgia; and Mrs. Ann
Stafford of Corning, New York. One brother-in-law: Mr. Virgil
Stafford of Claxton, Georgia.
Many other loving nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and
friends. And a very special friend, Ms. Louise Shedd of Brunswick,
Georgia.
The LORD is my shepherd,
I shall not want; He maketh me to lie down
green pastures, He leadeth me beside the still waters,
He restoreth my soul.
He leadeth me in the paths of
righteousness for His names sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil,
for thou art with me.
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me;
Thou preparest a table before me
in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou anointest my head with oil,
my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me,
all the days of my life; and I will dwell
in the house of the LORD
for ever.
Let not your heart be troubled: Ye believe in
GOD, believe also in me. In my Fathers house
are many mansions: If it were not so, I would
have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will
come again, and receive you unto myself; that
where I am, there ye may be also.
