Mrs. Evelyn Bacon was born on November 6, 1927 in Liberty
County to the late Grady Slater and Sarah McClain Slater Badger.
She departed this life on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at her home.
She worked for many years at the Speed Queen Laundromat,
Country Gentlemans Barber Shop and many other odd jobs. She
joined Green Cypress Missionary Baptist Church at an early age where
she served faithfully as the church clerk and president of the senior
choir.
Preceding her in death were her mother, Sarah McClain Slater
Badger, her father Grady Slater, three daughters, Mae Evelyn Walker,
Barbara Jo Newton and Sadie Bacon, two sisters Flossie Norman and
Melrose Slater Jackson, and three brothers Roosevelt Slater, Moses J.
Badger, Jr. and Felton Slater.
She leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 68 years, Joe
Bacon of Claxton; ten children, Dorothy Williams of Prince George,
VA, Thelma Littles, Johnnie Bacon (Mary Ann), Mary Nell Love,
Evangelist JoAnn Idoward (James), Gwendolyn FFobley (Orie), Judy
Bacon, James E. Bacon, Beverly Moore and Caretha Mincey (Randy)
all of Claxton; sisters Sarah Williams, Jenell Badger Fiayward (Roy)
and Annie Grace Badger all of Claxton; aunt Grade Davis of Claxton;
sister-in-law Lillie Mae Smart of Claxton; 36 grandchildren, 80 great
grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren, extended Slater family in
Liberty County, Georgia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and
other relatives and friends.
We had many talks and shared many tears.
But the thing that we have had the chance to do
Was Thank God for the 86years He gave you.
So sleep on mama and take your rest.
We often told you that We Love You
But God Loves You Best.
