Mother Evelyn Baker Kirkland was one of ten children
born to Andrew Lee and Mabel Bacon Baker in
Groveland, Ga. She was educated in the public schools
of Bulloch County and completed High School at Williams
James High School Statesboro Ga.
Mother Kirkland joined New Bethlehem Baptist Church
Register, Ga. at an early age and served diligently until
she moved to Detroit, Michigan. She worked at Harpers
Hospital until Retirement.
Later years she married Rev. Walter Kirkland while living
in Michigan. Rev Kirkland and Mother Kirkland moved
back to Claxton, Ga. And united themselves with Historic
Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church family where he
was one of the associate Pastor. Mother Kirkland was the
mother of many, and therefore was named as the church
mother of Historic Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Mother Kirkland slept away quietly and peaceful at 10:00
pm on Friday Night December 20, 2013 at Hospice
Medical Center in Statesboro Ga.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Walter
Kirkland, three sisters and five brothers.
She is survived by one sister Theresa Baker McKinnon
Swinson, one sister in- law Willie Mae Baker, five step
children savannah Ga., a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, friends, and seven very helpful and dedicated
cousins.
